Windows 7 Release Candidate available for download

Many of us have tested the beta of Windows 7, and I am sure we all felt the improvements it offered over Windows Vista.

And soon before Windows 7 gets ready for final release, we have Windows 7 RC available for our testing now.

One can download it at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/hi-in/evalcenter/dd353205(en-us).aspx

You need to have technet member ship in order to download. The installer (32 bit) is around 2.3gb and will install the Windows 7 Ultimate RC. Installation is fast and it is suggested to do a Clean install. So if you have Windows 7 with you (as I had), you will need to reinstall all of your softwares after installing Windows 7 RC on top of it.

The Release Candidate will definitely offer better functionality and enhancements. I am yet to try out all, will post soon as and when I find few worth mentioning.

Few of these are:
  • New Login screen: quite refreshing.
  • Taskbar improvements: The notifications are clear and now you can hover over the taskbar thumbnails to see the actual window. Ability to define the length of jump list items.
  • New themes: We have some new desktop themes such as Characters, United States, Nature etc.
  • XP Compatibility view: with support for XP SP1, Sp2 & SP3 modes.
  • Desktop enhancements: now we can separately hide desktop icons & desktop gadgets.
  • Improve keyboard shortcuts.
  • Latest Internet Explorer 8.
  • And many many more...
